Adding half a teaspoon of chilli to your meal will boost digestion, help you burn more calories and suppress cravings, a new US study reveals.

Capsaicin, the component that gives chilli peppers their heat, can reduce hunger and increase energy expenditure.

Researchers at Purdue University found that participants who added cayenne pepper to their meal experienced increased body temperature (which burns more energy) as well as a decrease in hunger for fatty, salty and sweet foods.
