Marc Gasol credits weight loss for career year

The Memphis Grizzlies have the best record in the NBA through the first month of the season, and the biggest reason for their success is a career year forMarc Gasol. Gasol is an early-season MVP candidate, playing as well on the defensive end as he ever has and making a bigger impact than usual on offense.
Gasol credits his success this season to offseason weight loss. From Billy Witz of the New York Times:
“Losing the weight makes you feel so comfortable; it makes you feel like you can push the whole time,” Gasol said. “You don’t have to take the co-pilot seat and let somebody else take over. You can be on the go most of the game.”
Gasol isn’t the only one who’s noticed the change. Mike Conley also praised his new, slimmer teammate:
“I was like, Man, that can’t be Marc,” said Conley, the Grizzlies’ point guard. “It looks like he lost 50 pounds.”
Gasol is a free agent this summer and is expected to be pursued heavily by the Knicks among other teams. But with how good this Grizzlies team is, it’s hard to see why he should leave.
